Crescendo, formerly known as Kinderchor of Spokane Youth Choruses, is a Children’s Choral program that was established to create an opportunity for children to access a quality choral experience regardless of economic circumstance. Funding is required from sources other than tuition to run the majority of the program. In scope, this choral program reaches outside of the Spokane city limits to the neighboring communities.
A special focus is placed on the development of musical skills as well as commitment to group process. Through rehearsal and performance, each singer will be able to gain accomplishment by growing in musical understanding and in sharing that knowledge. In so doing, the child will have an opportunity to build his/her self esteem.
Special effort is made to perform and socialize with other children’s choruses within the Inland Northwest. In this opportunity, they are able to share and learn from other quality programs in our region. There are also occasions to share their music with singers in other cities and to be ambassadors of the Spokane arts community within the region.
Crescendo Community Chorus, originally known as the South Hill Children’s Chorus supported by St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, was reorganized in 2007 to reach a broader age group and wider geographical area. As part of this new direction, the name was changed to Kinderchor of Spokane and 501(c) 3 status was established. As the organization grew and reached its 10th anniversary in 2013, it seemed like the perfect time to find a new name that would reflect the hearts of the singers and goals of the organization. Crescendo, a musical term relating to the gradual increase in volume of a musical passage, seemed to be a perfect fit!
A great piece about the organization was published by The Spokesman Review. Take a look at it here:
